Chiranjeevi dabbula Rajyam

This election season has seen politicians talk openly about how much they paid their parties to get tickets. Of course, the high point of this campaign has been the hitherto unknown Samala Venkat Reddy who boasted that he had paid Rs 10 crore for the Secunderabad LS ticket to the TRS. He has been hauled up by the Election Commission for his trouble and lost the ticket in the process.

Disappointed Praja Rajyam Party ticket aspirants have also been open about the price of tickets in the party. According to Praja Rajyam Party Prakasam district organising secretary Bathula Brahmananda Reddy, it is between Rs 3 crore and Rs 5 crore. Brahmananda Reddy, who has since resigned from the party, has alleged that PRP general secretary Allu Aravind openly demanded money from ticket aspirants.

Says Brahmananda Reddy, “Recently I met Allu Aravind. He said I have public support and told me that the seat was mine. But I was shocked when he asked me to pay Rs 3 crore for the party ticket. I told him that I would not pay him a penny because I had been an active worker for the party ever since its inception. Allu Aravind has turned the party into a money spinner in the garb of saamajika nyayam.” Brahmananda Reddy said the ticket for the Parchur Assembly seat was finally given to Sandu Purnachander Rao for Rs 3 crore.

Former Dalit MLA and former Kurnool zilla parishad chairman Masala Eeranna lamented that the party was giving tickets to the highest bidder while party faithfuls were left in the lurch. Eeranna hunkered down for a dharna at the Praja Rajyam office in Hyderabad and his brother sat on a hunger strike. “The party promises samajika nyayam but does not give tickets to Dalit politicians. Chiranjeevi, his brothers and brother-in-law have no right to talk about corruption. Praja Rajyam Party is giving tickets to criminals who have bushels of money. Isn’t Bhooma Nagi Reddy a criminal?

How did they give a ticket to him,” asked Eeranna.
P V L Narasimha Raju is another disappointed Praja Rajyam ticket hopeful who is going to town with the dirty linen. He wanted the Undi Assembly ticket but he alleges Allu Aravind demanded Rs 2 crore for it. “Chiranjeevi preached Gandhigiri in Shankardada Zindabad, but in real life it’s a different story,” he said. Director K Raghavendra Rao is planning to remake 1977 classic Daana Veera Sura Karna. The director is said to be wracking his head over the casting. Who will play which character? His casting agent was looking downcast when I ran into his at Rama Naidu studios in Hyderabad. I told him it wasn’t a difficult problem really. Not wanted by his brothers, he is tricked by his mother into sparing the lives of her legitimate sons in the great war. Just as Karna was tricked into somebody else’s war, Junior has been lured by Chandrababu Naidu into the present election campaign, making him the ideal choice for Kaliyuga Karna.

Sakuni Mama: The Fox

Who else but Chandrababu Naidu can play Sakuni. Just look at his credentials: the Viceroy conspiracy, the use-and-throw of Harikrishna, Daggubati and scores of others.

Duryodhana: Thunder Thighs Balakrishna

Raghavendra Rao’s ideal choice for Duryodhana is Balakrishna. Duryodhana slapped his left thigh to Draupadi and invited her to sit on it. Balakrishna has been on a thigh-slapping spree round the countryside even if there are no Draupadis around.

Dusshasana: Harikrishna

Harikrishna is Dusshasana. He is entirely a creature of impulse, with no great ability to think. He blindly follows the dictum of Sakuni and Duryodhana.

No one expects polls to be decent any more. But the water tap war between TDP’s Roja and the PRP’s Shobha Rani, ably assisted by Pavan Kalyan, would make even KCR blush. Vote 2009 promises to be the dirtiest campaign ever. We have already seen netas slapping their thighs, twirling their moustaches and questioning each other’s parentage. To what depth are we going to plunge this time?
